Round 2 plan and recommendations

Ailis's six-test brief and the 26 new files, reviewed against what the live tests have told us so far. Internal: this page carries spend figures.

The short version

1. What is running now, and what to do with it

21 to 28 Oct, Meta-reported, 7-day click. 28 Oct is a part day.

2. Why the Fir winners went quiet in main

Christmas ad set spend by day. The lighter block is Ad 1000, still taking about a third of whatever the set gets.

The five Fir copies went live in this set on 27 Oct, the day after the cap. Spend on them since: 1027 £9, 1029 £126, 1030 £7, 1031 £9, 1033 £14. At £701 a day across 24 ads with Ad 1000 and three older ads ahead of them, there is no headroom. The copies are unread, not failed. The lever is the Evergreen budget, not the Fir campaigns.

3. Round 2: six tests, two waves

Every test is one ad set with its ads competing inside it, one caption, built paused. Budgets are a recommendation; a 7-day read needs about £150 per ad.

Test D

Fir: build on the proven concept

Wave 1: build now
£250 a day7 adsone ad set, ads competeLink: Christmas collection

The question. Can a new opening line or setting beat the review card that already works?

How it reads. Control is a fresh-post copy of Ad 1000, so it starts with the same zero social proof as the six new statics. The 28 Oct proof analysis showed a reused post with 50+ reactions reaches £100 in 86% of cases against 32% for a fresh post, so the live post would win on proof alone.

Copy. Ad 1000's live copy pool on every arm (nothing new to approve).

Watch out. Static (1) is 1027's quote re-shot polished; we already know polish does not matter. Static (5) is the real new question: the pine-disinfectant opener that won on video, now as a still. Typo "ofr" on (4).

Test E

Starlight: what is driving the appeal

Wave 1: build now
£200 a day5 adsone ad set, ads competeLink: Christmas collection

The question. Does Starlight sell on the pottery, the scent, or the "not too Christmassy" idea?

How it reads. Formats are mixed (two statics, three videos), so Meta will favour the videos. Read message against message inside each format, and read each arm against 1066 (still, £33) and 1067 (kiln video, £30) which share the caption.

Copy. Icicle 02 caption (approved), same as T4, so the new arms read against 1066 and 1067.

Watch out. Dropped the 8-second review-on-the-Grand video: the Grand photo lost in the Fir test (1028, £71) and its review line contradicts the scent static. Starlight notes disagree across the set (see flags).

Noël: which angle makes the scent compelling

Wave 1: build now
£200 a day3 ads (4 if the gift-box video stays)one ad set, ads competeLink: Christmas collection

The question. Does Noël sell on a personal recommendation, the look of the Pott, or the story behind the scent?

How it reads. Same caption on all arms. Scent messaging is consistent enough (all three name cinnamon and clove). Read on cost per order once each arm has £150, with 1064 (sniff plus a named scent, £28) as the benchmark.

Copy. New Noël caption, two options on the review page.

Watch out. The Holly gift-box video names no scent and opens on the present, which is the frame that got clicks not buyers on 1063. It belongs in Gifting, not here.

Refilling: which explanation converts

Wave 2: about 4 Nov
£150 a day3 adsone ad set, ads competeLink: Refillable Candle Starter Pack page

The question. Does understanding the refill remove hesitation, and which format explains it best?

How it reads. Cold audience. The hypothesis is about hesitation, so read add-to-basket per landing-page view alongside cost per order, not clicks.

Copy. New refill caption, two options on the review page.

Watch out. The close-up video is Ad 1042's video, already live to the zero-order email list; cold is new for it. All three say "about 30 seconds" (claim register). The walkthrough ends on a pink production slate at 1:07 that must be trimmed.

Test C

PR: does press proof improve conversion

Wave 2: about 4 Nov
£200 a day (£100 an arm)3 vs 3Meta A/B test, two ad sets, forced even spendLink: Refillable Candle Starter Pack page

The question. Does a newspaper masthead on the image add enough credibility to pay for itself?

How it reads. Ailis supplied the press side only. The clean control is the same three images with the masthead removed and the quote left in. She needs to export those. The A/B tool fits here because it is a single-variable test.

Copy. New caption with no proof of its own, so the masthead is the only difference.

Watch out. The Telegraph walkthrough video has no pair, so it runs as a normal ad. In it Ailis says "Diptyque uses paraffin" while the article on screen says a vegetable and paraffin blend, and says six years in business where the market video says four.

New formats: which questions deserve more creative

Wave 2: about 4 Nov
£150 a day3 adsone ad set, ads competeLink: Refillable Candle Starter Pack page

The question. Do practical sizes, the MatchPott, or Pott out in the world earn a creative lane?

How it reads. Exploratory. The read is whether Meta funds each one at all and what it costs per order against the account's £43 break-even. An unfunded ad counts as a result.

Copy. New Starter Pack caption that sits on all three videos.

Watch out. Burn times in the sizes video (20, 60, 70 hours) match the website. The market video is really a founder story; the stall footage is the "out in the wild" part.

Round 2 tests00£650£1,150
Testing share29%22%35%43%

Testing is not losing money relative to main right now: the round 1 ad sets run at £28 to £46 per order and the Christmas set blended £32 to £41 over the last three days, against a November break-even of about £43. The share only becomes a problem if Evergreen stays capped while both waves are live, which is the reason wave 2 waits a week and T3 and T4 should have resolved by then.

5. Flags for Ailis before anything is built

Refilling walkthrough has a leftover production slate

The 68-second video ends on a pink card reading "Brand Video, Refill into Pott". It needs trimming before upload.

"About 30 seconds" in all three refill videos

The claim register bans timed-refill claims until timed on camera. Ad 1042 already runs it, so this is Casey's call. Our captions make no timed claim.

Starlight notes disagree

The scent static says "not cinnamon". Ailis's video says bergamot, tonka and cinnamon. The website says bergamot, lemon, mandarin and cinnamon. One version has to be chosen.

Six years or four

The PR video says Pott started six years ago. The founder-at-market video says four.

"Diptyque uses paraffin"

The Telegraph screenshot in the same video says a vegetable and paraffin blend. Safer to cut the line.

PR control missing

The test needs the same three images without the masthead. Ailis has to export them.

Typos in supplied statics

"ofr yourself" (Fir 4), "cinamon" and "begamot" (Starlight scent static). Customer quotes can stay as written if they are genuine; worth asking.

Are the Fir review lines all genuine?

Six new customer quotes. We never run one that is not a real review.

6. What happens next

  1. Casey confirms the sunsets and the wave 1 budgets.
  2. Ailis approves copy on the review page and answers the four flags.
  3. Wave 1 is built paused as Ads 1071 onward, screenshots sent, then switched on.
  4. Wave 2 built around 4 Nov once the PR exports are in.
  5. Reads per ad at £150 (winner at or under £40 with 6 or more orders, kill over £75) and per ad set around day 7.
